The Kiwanis Club of Hanover recently welcomed new teachers and school professionals with a banquet meeting. This event was held Thursday, December 7 at Hanover Railside Family Diner. Those attending from Hanover Public School District were: Alisha Diehl, Ellena Keriazes, Ana Paul, KaSandra Ploutz, Lauren Taylor, Kristi Teal, and Deb Hare.

Each new professional shared her background information and excitement for serving students:

Alisha Diehl is School Nurse. She was born in Hanover and lived here her whole life. She attended Harrisburg Area Community College and earned her Associate Degree in Nursing, then earned her Bachelor’s Degree online from Western Governors University. She worked at Hanover Hospital in their Maternity unit prior to coming to Hanover Public School District. She is excited to be a part of this awesome HPSD team!

Ellena Keriazes is teaching English and Academic Literacy. She was raised in Hanover and a graduate of Hanover Senior High School. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Hood College in Frederick, MD with a double major in English and political science. After living and teaching in four states, she has moved back home and is proud to be teaching in the Hanover Public School District. As the saying goes “Once a Nighthawk Always a Nighthawk.”

Ana Paul is a long term substitute for Kindergarten. She was born and raised in Southern California. She then moved to Tempe, Arizona where she received her Bachelors in Science from Arizona State University. She then moved back to California and received her Master’s of Education at the University of California Riverside. In 2016 she moved to Pennsylvania and has the pleasure of working in the Hanover Public School District as a long term substitute and is extremely grateful.Kiwanis New Teacher Night

KaSandra Ploutz is School Counselor. She grew up in a small town in northeastern PA called New Milford and graduated from Blue Ridge High School. She earned both her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Masters of Education in School Counseling from Shippensburg University. She worked for three years as a Behavior Specialist Consultant and Mobile Therapist after graduation and recently held a long-term substitute position in Camp Hill School School District. She is so excited to be able to support the students, families and staff at Hanover Street Elementary.

Lauren Taylor is teaching Orchestra. She is originally from Williamsport, PA. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education at Penn State. She has loved music for as long as she can remember and has fallen for teaching music inside and outside of public schools. This year marks her first as a public school teacher and she couldn’t have asked for better co-workers and students to kick off her career than those she has at Hanover Public School District.

Kristi Teal is teaching fourth grade. She grew up in Abbottstown and graduated from York College of Pennsylvania in December 2016. She was a long-term substitute at New Oxford Elementary before started at Hanover Street Elementary. She is excited to be teaching in the Hanover Public School District. She looks forward to establishing herself in the Hanover community.

Deb Hare is teaching ESL English. She was raised in Baltimore and Carroll Counties. She graduated from Towson University and McDaniel College. She started her career as a school librarian and then moved into behavioral therapy and consulting. For ten years she was with the Lincoln Intermediate Unit as an ESL and special education teacher. She feels being with English Learners at Hanover High School is a wonderful place to be!
