Kindergarten and First Grade Registration

Registration is held in March for all children who will attend kindergarten in the district next term. Children must be 5 years old on or before September 1st. Parents are urged to register their children during the day. Children must be present to participate in a developmental screening conducted by district staff. Parents must bring the following to registration: Birth certificate Immunization records Proof of Residency (electric bill or lease/mortgage bill in parent name) Driver’s License Other important medical records. Children are assigned to their neighborhood schools on a first-come, first-served basis. When enrollment in each session reaches 25, children may be assigned to other buildings as space is available.

Registration During the Summer Months

Do you have friends or new neighbors with school-age children who have not registered those children for the next school term? If so, please be a community communicator for us: tell your friend or neighbor that they should register their elementary-age children for school at the administration office. Students in 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades should register at the middle school; students in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades should register at the high school.

Parent and Child Visitation

Parent and child visitation is held during Back to School Night in the kindergarten room of the school to which your child has been assigned. This program provides both the parent and child the opportunity to visit the kindergarten room and be introduced to the general rules and procedures for the school day. A building tour is also offered during Kindergarten Registration for families.

Class Visitation and Conferences

Parents are welcome to visit the schools of the Hanover District. However, to avoid conflicts with the regular class schedule and/or special activities, parents are asked to schedule a specific time. Such arrangements should be cleared through the principal’s office prior to the visit. Parent Teacher Conferences, typically held in November, provide an opportunity to discuss students’ academic progress and their social-emotional well being.
