Recently, in 5th grade classrooms, students have been sharing their latest scientific discoveries! Over the past few weeks, student have learned more about the scientific method, starting with a question. Students were challenged to identify a question that they wanted answered, and then formulate a hypothesis. Students learned more about variables and the meaning of a “control” group, for testing purposes. Students also learned that the scientific method is not solely relegated to science, but rather, can be applied to all facets of life. The processes of scientific inquiry as well as inductive and deductive reasoning, are valuable skills to learn, and by looking at some of the high quality experiments, they had a lot of fun doing it!
