Students in Mr. Samuelsen’s 7th grade classes are reading Restart, Book 1 of a dystopian science fiction series set in central Pennsylvania. Mr. Samuelson is the author! The novel follows teens navigating a world transformed by technological collapse, immersing students in a fast-paced story grounded in meaningful themes.

Throughout the unit, students are examining perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds, the powerful influence of technology on society, the strength of friendship during crisis, and the importance of maintaining one’s humanity in the face of tyranny. These themes provide rich opportunities for discussion, writing, and critical thinking.

As students analyze character choices and conflicts, they are learning how literature reflects real-world challenges while encouraging resilience, courage, and moral clarity. We’re proud of the thoughtful conversations and engagement this novel has inspired in the classroom
