Students have been diving into the world of environmental science at Hanover Middle School. With coaches Amanda Starner and Bryan Beichler, HMS now hosts two Envirothon teams, a 5th/6th grade team and a middle school team. Largest in the nation, Envirothon is an environmental education competition hosted by the York County Conservation District. Both teams will participate in the competition in the spring. Meanwhile, both teams have a lot of preparation to complete. Focusing on aquatics, wildlife, forestry and conservation, the students have a plethora of resource to read, study, analyze and memorize. Currently, the groups are becoming experts on one topic and creating study resources (games, slideshows, outlines, etc.) to help their teammates review the material. Along with learning worthwhile information about the environment, the students are also learning teamwork, problem solving skills, citizenship and the importance of caring for our planet.
