An Honored Tradition One of the things that I believe in when educating my students is that they should also demonstrate kindness, goodness, and caring about others. I have seen this year after year when I’ve asked my students to give up their time to write letters, make cards, and create words of encouragement when needed. This year, my students have gone above and beyond for Veteran’s Day. They wrote Thank You notes to the Veteran’s and during their Lunch period I went and distributed them. Usually I just leave piles at the VFW and American Legions, but this year I went to Texas Roadhouse where Veterans were invited to dine for free. The lines were around the corner and as I went up to each Veteran and explained why I was there, I was thrilled by their responses. I went inside and went to every table making sure that my students letters were in the hands of those who have made such an impact on our lives. I was touched by how this simple deed was so gratefully received. When I returned to school, I shared my experience and gratitude with my students. I was delighted to hear that one of our Veterans stopped in to speak personally to my class. We were all happy to know that we had made a difference!
