For the past two weeks, our kindergarten class has been learning all about American symbols. These symbols included the bald eagle, American Flag, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the White House. We learned interesting facts about each symbol, as well as what the symbols stand for - strength, freedom, independence, friendship, and hope. We also learned about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and how they helped our country. To end our social studies unit, we talked about September 11th and all the amazing heroes that helped on a sad day in our country. The students made firefighter and police hats and stood in front of their American Flag crafts to honor these heroes and how they helped our country. Here are some direct quotes from the kiddos…

“I wish I could go to the Lincoln Memorial and sit with Abraham Lincoln on his big chair!” “The Washington Monument is as high in the sky as an airplane!” “I want to live in the White House because I would have the biggest room ever!” “The Statue of Liberty was copper brown, just like the penny!”

After learning about all the symbols, we are all proud to be Americans!
