The Lorax, Thing1 and Thing 2, and Cat in the Hat roamed the halls of Washington Elementary on March 4-8 as the students and staff celebrated the love of reading, which many Dr. Seuss books inspired. We wore crazy socks, ate green eggs and ham, and dressed like our favorite Dr. Seuss characters. Dr. Seuss believed all children could read if the stories were silly and fun, so he made up characters, words, and rhyming patterns for his young audiences. When asked what her favorite Dr. Seuss story was Louise G. replied “I liked the Sneetches because at the end they all learned that it doesn’t matter how you look; it matters if you are nice and all get along.” Liam A. said “I like Green Eggs and Ham because I could read it all by myself”. Yearly we acknowledge Dr. Seuss’ contribution to stimulating an early love of learning in our students. Oh, The Places They Will Go!
