Harold L. "Hal" Reese passed away suddenly at the age of 79 on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1992. Born in Hebron Twp., Potter County, he was the son of the late David H. and Avis M. Kepner Reese. He was the husband of Catherine "Kay" Egan Reese, to whom he was married 54 years on June 18. Hal Reese's career began in the 1930's at Montoursville High School where he participated in varsity football, basketball, baseball and track, He continued his education at East Stroudsburg University, and was a three sport athlete, playing varsity football, basketball and baseball. In 1936, after receiving his degree from East Stroudsburg, Mr. Reese traveled back to Montoursville to coach football, basketball and baseball. In 1940, he accepted a coaching position at Lititz High School, coaching the same three sports until 1944. He had no assistants during his first eight years. In 1944, Mr. Reese arrived in Hanover, again, with three varsity assignments: football, basketball, and baseball. He coached the Nighthawks in football for 11 seasons. His teams compiled 66 wins against 35 losses and seven ties. They won two South Penn Conference titles, and the 1947 squad posted a 10-0 log, the first perfect record in Hanover High annals. During his four years as basketball coach, the Nighthawks were 42 and 29. Hal had the baseball team from 1946 to 1954. His teams claimed the South Penn championship four consecutive years 1951-1954, sharing the 1953 crown with Gettysburg.
