The Junior Highway was the Junior High newspaper. The Junior High, "the yellow-brick building", was located on the corner of West Walnut Street and Centennial Avenue. It was originally constructed as a High School, circa 1917, but quickly became too small for an ever increasing student population. It became a Junior High when the High School was moved to the Eichelberger building in 1932.

The Junior High housed grades 7, 8 and 9. The Ninth Grade (freshman) mascot was the "Falcons." The 7th and 8th Grade mascot was a spider and the team name "the Spiders." This writer has never found the reason for the choice of that particular mascot; however, the mascot and name were used until 1994, when the district's PTO requested that all schools' mascots be the Nighthawk for fund-raising purposes. The Junior High colors were blue and gold and those colors are often reflected in this web site.  pbh
