Third Maryland

Date: 1776

Thirteen five pointed white stars on a blue canton with seven red and six white stripes. Twelve stars in a circle on canton with one centered. (R15)

This flag is another early version of the Stars and Stripes.

One of the most brilliant American victories of the war was at Cowpens, South Carolina. The attacking British were stopped by the Continental line of Maryland, Virginia and Georgia Regiments under Gen David Morgan.

The flag of the Third Maryland Regiment is now enshrined at the state capitol in Annapolis.
