Nancy (Zartman) Hemler

Hanover, Pa.

Nancy, her husband, Bob, and their Shitzu, Molly, live in Hanover. They have two sons and four grandchildren. She was a housewife and mother and he was a new home builder. They are both retired. Nancy enjoys tending to her flower beds and listening to Country music.

She and Bob have traveled extensively within the USA and to Canada.

How did Nancy and Bob meet? According to Nancy, “I was walking to high school with a girl friend and she stopped and talked to this fellow riding his bike to work (he was learning the barber trade). He asked her to talk to me about a date and she did. Next year we will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary.”

Nancy thinks about the good old days quite often. She particularly liked, “feeling safe when you would go for a walk.” She also feels that, “people were more friendly and neighborly” in the 50’s and 60’s. She does appreciate, however, our modern advances in medical technology.

The thing she is proudest of … “Raising two great sons.”

Her message to her classmates is …

“Enjoy each day to its fullest because we can be knocked down real quick. In 1983, I was knocked down with a brain aneurysm operation, and if it weren’t for the good Lord and my wonderful husband, I wouldn’t be here. The good Lord was wonderful to me. I feel I am living on borrowed time. We have two wonderful sons. Robert Jr. is the owner of South Hanover Bowling Alley and Randy is the owner of a building and remodeling business. If the good Lord cooperates, next year we will have our 50th Anniversary. We have four grandchildren and we have been very fortunate.”
