Ann (Shafer) Schwarz

Weston, Mass.

Ann and her husband, Tom, live in Weston, Ma. They have four children and six granddaughters. They met in Spain when Ann spent her junior year in college there. Tom is a retired executive. She has been a very active volunteer, “My primary focus has been in museums. I chaired the volunteer group at The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston for a number of years, and I have been a docent at the Harvard University Art Museums as well.” Her hobbies are painting, needlepoint, reading, and gardening.

Ann and Tom have traveled widely throughout the USA, and to Canada, Europe, Asia, Russia, and the Caribbean.

She almost never longs for the good old days, but she did like the feeling of safety that we all enjoyed in those days. She’s grateful for the modern advances of medical technology, “One of our children has had successful surgery for two brain tumors.”

Ann is proud of … “Having a successful, happy marriage. Tom and I have four grown children, two boys, and two girls. They are all married and doing well. Our great joy is our six granddaughters who range in age from 2 months to 11 years.”

Her message for her classmates is … “I have been so fortunate. I had the good luck to spend my junior year studying in Spain and there met my future husband, Tom Schwarz. In September 2003, we will celebrate our 45th anniversary. Tom is the most marvelous husband and father. We have lived in the Boston area since 1967 and have raised our four children here. We both love New England and wouldn’t wish to live anywhere else. All four children are married and three live within 15 minutes of us --- a rare thing in this rootless age. Timothy, our eldest, lives in Connecticut with his family. Family is really the highest priority for both Tom and me. Our children and grandchildren travel with us and also spend lots of time at our summer house in Chatham. We have also had wonderful trips with my sister, Jane, and her husband, Pete Schott. We give thanks every day for the blessings we have received.”

Ann has a BA from Smith College, and Tom has a BA from Williams College and an MBA from Harvard University.
