Donna (Rhodes) Eckenrode

McSherrystown, Pa.

Donna is a widow living in McSherrystown, Pa. Her late husband, Gene, passed away in 1995. She has eight children, eighteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren! (some are step children and step grandchildren). Donna is semi retired and she collects giraffs and Noah’s Arks.

She enjoys attending live performances of major entertainers, flower shows, plays, local band concerts, and events her grandchildren are in.

She never longs for the good old days, but she does feel that children had much better manners in those days, “When I took my children shopping, they never ran around the store or picked up things.”

Donna is proud of and thankful for …

“My kids and my late husband, Gene Eckenrode.”

She says about her children and stepchildren

“My Daughter, Mary Myers, was an admittance clerk at the Hanover Hospital, and she also worked in X-ray. Then she worked for doctors Howard and Ellison. She went to York and worked for Dr. Cohn, then she came back to Hanover and presently works for Dr. Aider. Sherry Bortner works for Sealed Air as a secretary. Phyllis Hoff works for Dr. Cole as a Dental Assistant.  Before that, Phyllis worked at the Sylvania shoe factory which closed. When the factory closed, Phyllis was able to study to be a dental assistant and the shoe factory paid for it. Samuel Thoman works for Conewago Enterprises, Inc. Breita Stahl works at Homewood as a dietary aide. Keith Raber works for the Hanover Wire Cloth and Ken Raber, his twin brother, works for Donald B. Smith Roofing Co. Paul Raber works for Bookspan, formerly Doubleday.”
