Marjorie (Mehring) Barnes

Margie and her husband, Dan, live in Viola, AR. They have four sons and seven “very precious” grandchildren. How did they meet? She says, “I met Dan at Boydie’s Restaurant in Littlestown. Boydie’s always reminded me of Arnold’s Restaurant on the TV Show, ‘Happy Days.’” Margie attended college for four years, then started raising a family, and was a stay-at-home mom. Dan worked in food service management and is retired. Her hobbies are, “I collect cook books and recipes, love to cook and bake, and I also collect angel figurines.”

 

Their oldest son, Daniel,  lives in Allen, Texas and owns his own landscaping business. Their son, David, lives in Clinton, S.C., and he is an athletic trainer with a Doctorate in Sports Administration. Son, Nevin, lives in Henderson, AR and is a criminal investigator, and Jason lives in Frisco, Texas and has a Master’s degree in Athletic Training.

 

Margie enjoys college sports events, county fairs, and events their children and grandchildren are in. She says, “I go to see our granddaughter in beauty pageants --- she always comes in 1^st place (pretty little girl).” She sometimes thinks about the good old days when, “I think families were closer and children were more polite. The children of the 2000’s are watching too much TV and playing video games. Also, the price of gasoline was great!” She is thankful for our modern medical technology.

 

She feels the education we got at EHS was, “the best … much better than today. Miss Menges was a wonderful stern and admired teacher. She was also my favorite teacher.”

 

She is proud of, “Being able to stay home and be a mother to four wonderful sons. It was never a dull moment, but each one turned out great and never caused us any trouble. I have been married to a wonderful husband for 46 years.”

 

Her message to her classmates is, “The Class of ’54 was the best class at EHS. I have some great, happy memories and have great friends. I am hoping each and every one of you will come to the 50^th reunion. Please!”

 

Margie spent two years at East Stroudsburg University, and two years at a business school in York, Pa. Dan has an Associate Degree.
