Shirley and her husband, Joe, live in Goose Creek, SC (not far from Charleston, SC). They met in 1956 in Washington, DC when they were both stationed at the Marina Corps Headquarters there. They have been married for 45 years. They have three children, five grandchildren and one great granddaughter!  Shirley listed her occupations as, “Sergeant, US Marine Corps – 3 years, homemaker – 29 years, and meter reader for the water company for 12 years.” She is now retired. Joe retired after  26 years in the Marine Corps (master gunnery sergeant), then spent 19 years as an instructor at a technical college and retired from there in 1996.

Her hobbies are, “Women’s senior softball, aerobics (fitness center junkie), going to the beach, dancing (SC shag), and biking at the beach.” She does a lot of volunteer work for sports related functions.

What did she like about the good old days ? “No wrinkles.” The things she likes about the present are, “Great medical advances, great advancement in women’s professional sports, living in Charlestown, SC where softball is played year round and being so close to beaches and islands in the Charlestown, SC area.”

Shirley is proud of, “45 years of marriage and raising 3 beautiful and loving children, still playing softball, one grandson serving in the US Marine Corps, learning to cook Italian from relatives and being a member of a senior women’s softball team in 1995 and participating in the National Senior Olympic games. We played in Tuscon, Az in 1997, and at Disney Wide World of Sports Complex, Disney World, FL in 1999. I’m also a member of US Senior Softball Assoc. and Softball Player’s of America. We played in tournaments in Plano, Texas (2001 & 2002), Gallatin TN (2001 & 2002), Columbus, OH (2002) (placed third), and in the USSSA World Tournament (2003) in Gallatin where we finished “WORLD CHAMPIONS” IN THE 60+ DIVISION.”

Her message to her classmates is, “Looking forward to a good time seeing ‘you all’ at the 2004 Reunion.”
