Bertram F. Elsner

Hanover, Pa.

Bert and his wife, Joyce (Hamm also Class of ’54), and their dog live in Hanover. They have three children and four grandchildren. Bert was a mechanical engineer, then President and C.E.O. of Elsner Engineering Works, Inc. Joyce was a housewife and active in several charitable organizations. They are both retired. Bert’s hobbies are gardening, antique cars, golf, and swimming in their pool. He does volunteer work for his church and for the Hanover Rotary Club.

Bert has traveled for business and pleasure throughout the United States and Europe (more than 45 times to Europe alone), and he’s also traveled to Canada, South America and Australia.

He thinks about the good old days sometimes, “There wasn’t as much high pressure as today, and people had time for each other.” He likes the high technology of the 2000’s particularly computers and cell phones, and he likes our modern cars.

He’s proud of, “I was pleased to have prepared my son and nephew to take over our family business as 3rd generation family, and I was honored to receive 13 patents for machine designs I conceived. I was very fortunate to work in a field I enjoyed, and I’ve been successful in my work.”

Bert’s message to his classmates is …

“All of us in the Class of ’54 were sincere and industrious people, and we can be proud of our successes and accomplishments. We have made many friends in our class over our lifetimes. I think we all look forward to our retirement years to enjoy our families and hobbies.”

Bert has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Lehigh University, and Joyce has a B.S. in Music Education from Gettysburg College.
