Non-School Activities Records

As a service to its students, the Hanover Public School District maintains information about students’ activities outside of school. The school provides a form on which the student can list community groups or activities in which the student participates. Then, when colleges or prospective employers request information, the school can present a well rounded picture of the student, both in and out of school.

Student Insurance

The Hanover Public School District offers parents the opportunity to purchase school accident and dental accident insurance plans. Families can choose to purchase the insurance in September when brochures explaining the coverage are sent home. This insurance is offered especially for students who are not covered under family plans. Students who participate in extracurricular activities must be insured either through a family plan or the plan offered through the school. Students participating in school activities during the summer can obtain insurance information from their coach or advisor at any time.

Student Lunch Program

The purpose of the School Lunch Program is to provide a well-planned, nutritionally adequate, low cost lunch to children. A nutritious lunch is served each day in all five schools. The middle school and elementary lunches are prepared at the high school and delivered to the respective buildings daily. Elementary students are invited to bring their lunch money on Monday for all of the days they plan to buy lunch that week. This money should be turned in to the office so that credit may be extended for the correct number of days they wish to purchase a school lunch. White whole milk, 2% milk, chocolate milk, and a 20% orange juice drink are available at mid morning to elementary students. Kindergartners may purchase milk or orange drink as part of their snack at both the morning and afternoon sessions. White or Chocolate milk is also included as part of the school lunch. Additional white milk, 2% milk, chocolate milk, or orange drink may be bought at lunchtime. Students who carry their lunch may also buy any of the beverages.

Free and Reduced Price Lunch Program

Families meeting required standards can apply for free or reduced price lunches for their children. Information about this program is included as an insert to this calendar. Any families or families whose financial situations change during the year can receive information about the program by contacting the school or administration office. Some foster children are also eligible for these benefits. If you have foster children living with you and wish to apply for free or reduced price lunches for them, please notify the school or administration office.

School Pictures

All students in kindergarten, grades 1-9, and grade 11 have their pictures taken so that a photograph is available for each student’s record. The group and individual pictures are offered to parents at a minimum charge. Students in grades 10 and 12 may elect to have their pictures taken and may receive copies of those pictures at the same rate.

Working Papers

No minor may be employed full or part time without an employment certificate (working papers). Students between the ages of 14 - 17 must have working papers. Working papers are issued at the Hanover High School office between 8:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:00 p.m. Students must bring their birth certificate and a parent along when applying for working papers. Students age 14 & 15 must secure a certificate for each place of employment. Students age 16 & 17 are issued a transferable work permit. The certificate should be completed before the minor begins working.

Withdrawal from School

No student should stop attending school before graduating. Students considering dropping out should first talk with the principal or a counselor. By law, students under age 17 may not withdraw from school without parent authorization and the fulfillment of certain legal requirements, such as being employed full time and securing working papers. Students who decide to withdraw must follow a very specific withdrawal procedure as directed by the School Code. The district hopes parents will encourage their children to graduate. Parents who are aware that their child is thinking about dropping out are encouraged to seek the aid of the principal or counselor.
