E. Nadine Miller

Ocean Pines, Maryland

Nadine, her three cats, and “lots of mallard ducks” live in Ocean Pines, MD. She was a Health and Physical Education teacher and coach, and she’s now retired.

Her hobbies are reading, needlework, and ceramics. She has been a very active volunteer in the past, and presently she is President of the Friends of the Ocean Pines Library.

Nadine’s comments on the education we got at EHS were, “I think we got a good education. We didn’t have so many things to contend with that the students and teachers have today (‘student’s rights’ meant it was our right to learn).” Most effective teacher?, “Effective??? I am not sure … these come to mind … Ms. Pearl Blettner, Ms. Margaret Heacock, Mr. Jack Schuler, and what girl could take her eyes off Mr. Tom Diviney. Who could forget Ms. Mary Menges?” My favorite teachers were  Ms. Heacock because I went into Phys. Ed., and Mr. Schuler, he taught me to play the cello and baritone which I continued to do through college.”

She has traveled widely throughout the USA including Hawaii and Alaska, and she’s been to Canada and Europe. She enjoys attending flower shows, plays, local band concerts, Pow Wow’s, and book signings. She thinks about the good old days sometimes and she liked having less responsibilities in those days. The thing she likes about today is, “I’m my own boss (good or bad).”

Nadine is proud of … “Serving on the Cape May County Rescue Squad, Ocean City, NJ --- they changed the By-laws so I could join. I was the first woman member thanks to the chief. He lived next door and twisted my arm. I also taught First Aid courses for them. While serving there, I received ‘The Chapel of Four Chaplins’ award. After being back living in Maryland for only a year, I was nominated as a candidate for ‘Maryland’s Most Beautiful Person.’”

Nadine’s message is … “Wish everyone the best and hope to see many of you at the reunion.”

She has a B.S. in Health and Physical Education from E. Stroudsburg University.
